Robert Speer Obituary

Robert (Bob) Martscell Speer born February 4 1943 to Granville and Alta Mae Speer in Leedy, Oklahoma and passed away Thursday March 29, 2024 here in Deming.

Visitation will be Saturday morning, April 20, 2024 at the First Baptist Church at 9 o’clock where services will begin at 10 o’clock with Caleb Kartchner officiating.  Concluding services with honors will be at Mt. View Cemetery.

Bob as he was mostly called, joined the U.S.  Navy out of high school and served on the USS Midway CV41, in the Pacific Ocean during some of the Vietnam Era as an Aviation Boatswains Mate.

He married Sandra Jean Kirk in April of 1965 and later had two sons Kevin and Eric.

He worked in mines, the railroad, a road construction crew, and as a salesman at gas stations.  In 1977 he opened R&R cycle in Deming and became a franchised Yamaha motorcycle dealer.  He owned numerous local service stations.  Which from that came many friends, experiences, and adventures.

He could be found welding and modifying various things making wooden crafts.

Speaking of motorcycles.  He spent a lot of time on one.  Passing his passion to his sons and numerous people who were lucky to be called a friend by him.  He rode to all four corners of the United States in 18 days and the stories from that were sobering and very entertaining by way of San Ysidro, CA; Blaine, WA; Madawaska, ME; and Key West, FL.  Numerous trips from Mexico to Canada called the three flags. Camping on a motorcycle next to a river and cooking fresh caught fish for the night were some of the tales.   He also raced enduro and desert races across the southwest on a motorcycle.

He also had a penchant for trading and driving vehicles.  You never knew what he would show up in.

He also was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hunting, and exploring.  There was not much he would not do.  This love was passed on and shared with anyone who wanted to go.

He was also a golfer having played in numerous locations and tournaments.

Bob was preceded in death by his two brothers Gaylord and Gene and his parents.

He leaves behind his Wife of 59 years Sandi, two sons, daughter in law Wendy, granddaughters Mary Sue, Katelyn and Alyssa and his great grandchildren who were fortunate to be in his life if only for a little while, numerous nieces, and nephews.   So many amazing friends that were loved and enriched his life.

He was until very recently active at Deming Masonic lodge 12 being a past Master, Ballut Abyad Shrine Club, American Legion Bataan Post No. 4, and First Baptist Church member.

Some men a few short paragraphs can never to justice for.  Robert Speer was one of them.

His pallbearers will be Bryan Stevenson, Hector Mendoza, Ramon Pena, Stacy Stegall, Dane Speer, and Cooper Speer.

Special thanks to the staff and management at Willow Manor for his care the past few months.  At the conclusion of the services at Mt. View Cemetery lunch will be served at La Fonda.
