Sonya Guzman

Sonya Guzman, 54, Deming resident passed away at UNM Hospital in Albuquerque.

Visitation will take place Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 4 o’clock in the afternoon at Baca’s Funeral Chapel, recitation of the Holy Rosary will follow at 6 led by Patsy Leyba. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 26, 2024 at 11 o’clock in the morning at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Fr. Francis Gyau officiating. Cremation will follow and the inurnment will take place on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Mountain View Cemetery.

Sonya was born November 21, 1969 in Deming to Margaret Reyes and Jesus Guzman. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Her family was her pride and joy. She frequently enjoyed spending time with her daughters, grandchildren, family, and friends out eating or traveling.

In her spare time, Sonya liked to collect teapots and miniature figurines that she would display in her home. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, word searches, and watching food vendors cook street food on Facebook. Sonya unconditionally supported her friends and family. She steadfastly and loyally supported those she considered friends. Sonya will be missed greatly by all who know her. She will be remembered for all the kindness and compassion she would generously show others.

She is survived by her daughters, Jessica (David) Giron, Amanda Lynch and Margo Lynch (Faustino Zamudio); Grandchildren, Damian, Odin, Adam, and Lola; a brother, Jose (Lina) Guzman and sisters, Laura Pacheco, Priscilla Rouse (Saul Jimenez), Sandra Tarazon and Mary (Robert) Garcia.

 She is preceded in death by her parents Jesus and Margaret Guzman; brothers, Jesus Jr. and Javier Guzman and a brother-in-law, Manuel Pacheco.

Acting as pallbearers will be Matthew and Nicholas Garcia, Jason Rouse, Ulysses, Jody and Jacob Romero.
