JOSEFA FLORES MENDOZA, 102, a lifetime resident of Silver City, passed away at her home on Saturday, May 30, 2010.
Visitation will begin at 7:45 in the morning on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Baca’s Funeral Chapel in Silver City and the eulogy and rosary service will follow at 8:45 led by Alex Mendoza Jr. and Lillian Armijo. Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10 o’clock in the morning at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Silver City with Fr. Rod Nichols officiating. The rite of committal and interment will follow at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery in Silver City.
Josefa was born on April 22, 1908 in Silver City to Adelaida Flores. She was a very faithful follower of Christ and prayer was very important to her. She was an advocate and exemplary mother. Josefa considered raising her children her most important accomplishment and worked hard to support them. She was very active in the Catholic Church as a member of the Guadalupanas, the Altar Society Choir, and as a Cursillista. She liked singing and dancing and was a member of the Seniors Band (“Kitchen Band”). Josefa was proud of being a registered voter and helped to register others. She volunteered many hours at the Silver City Senior Center, took classes at WNMU learning to make gems and ceramics, had numerous hobbies, and enjoyed helping others.
She is survived by her three sons, Alejandro “Alex” Mendoza wife Aurora of Las Cruces, Henry Mendoza wife Gloria of Sun City, AZ, and Eduardo Mendoza wife LaVonne of Peoria, AZ; two daughters, Elvira Mendoza of Silver City and Rufina “Ruth” Carrillo of Sun City, AZ; 22 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by two sons, Francisco Garcia and Arturo Flores; five sisters and two brothers.
Pallbearers are Alex Mendoza Sr. and Jr., Henry, Eduardo, and Steve Mendoza, and Thomas Joseph Carrillo. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Armijo, Henry Christopher, Michael, and Alfred Mendoza, Charles Ryan, Luis Barrera, and Michael and Arthur Flores.
