Life Legacy

Dorothy Rusch Archibald, 90, passed away Friday evening, April 29, 2011 at the home of her daughter in Albuquerque.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 4, 2011 at Baca’s Funeral Chapels in Silver City from 5 until 7 o’clock in the evening. The funeral service will be held Thursday May 5, 2011 at Baca’s Funeral Chapels at 10 o’clock in the morning with Rev. Robert Ihlefeld of the Hurley Community Church, officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at the Hurley Cemetery.

Dorothy was born to Ida (Schmidt) and William Rusch on March 24, 1921 in Rockland, Wisconsin. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a BS Degree in Home Economics and Biology. She taught in the high school at Wild Rose, Wisconsin for two years. In 1946, she came to Hurley to teach home economics and science at Hurley High School. She later taught home economics at Snell Junior High and Biology at Cobre High and eventually retired after 25 years of service. In 1946 she married Fredrick C. Archibald, formerly of McAlester, Oklahoma. They made their home in Hurley for over 50 years. Until her retirement, she was actively involved in many school activities and also taught Sunday school and vacation bible school for many years at the Hurley Community Church.

Survivors include a son, William Archibald (Pam), Silver City; 2 daughters, Dorothy Shay (Robert), Albuquerque and Deborah Mavity, El Paso, TX; grandson, William Cory and his fiancée, Wendy Hunt, Phoenix, AZ and great-grandson, Jaxon Chase Archibald, Atlanta, GA. She is preceded in death by her husband, “Dub”; five brothers and one sister.

Pallbearers will be Jack Dunaway, Richard Youngs, Floyd Page, Marty Mize, Roy Jackson and Robert Shay.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Hurley Community Church.
