Life Legacy


Vicente (Guero) Escobar, Jr., 64, resident of Santa Clara, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ.

Visitation will begin at 5 o’clock in the evening, Monday, August 15, 2011 at Baca’s Funeral Chapels. The prayer vigil will follow at 6 o’clock led by Deacon Jeremiah Bustillos. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 9:30 in the morning at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Fierro with Fr. Roberto Barreto, celebrating. Concluding services and interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with veteran honors accorded.

Vicente was born May 17, 1947 in Fierro to Dora Loera and Vicente Escobar Sr. He truly loved New Mexico and all of its beauty. He enjoyed riding his Harley around the loop, fishing, hiking and all that nature has to offer. He especially loved spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl of the home; children, Tony Escobar and wife Krista of Portland, OR, Andrea Escobar and husband Ruben of Dallas, TX, Richard Escobar of Chicago, IL and Matthew Escobar of Dallas, TX; step-children, Chelsie Harrington of Waxahachie, TX and Colton Grant of Red Oak, TX; grandchildren, Joseph Escobar, Isaac Escobar, Xophia Grajeda, Dixie Brady and Kelly Brady; siblings, Olivia Chanez and husband Reynie of Hurley, Richard Escobar and wife Yolanda of Silver City, Alex Escobar and wife Dora of Bayard, Virginia Alirez and husband Robert of Santa Clara; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins that were very close to his heart.

Pallbearers will be Alex Escobar Jr., Adam Escobar, Christopher Alirez, Robbie Alirez, Daniel Chanez, Bill Barragan, Maria Luisa Alirez and Richie Trujillo. Honorary pallbearers will be Emeterio Escobar, Felix Jamarillo, Milo Garcia, David Jaurique, Al Sanchez and Sam Grijalva.
