Life Legacy

Rachel Hernandez Herrera, age 81, passed away peacefully and went to her Lord and Savior on June 8th, 2012. She was born September 12, 1930 to Eduvigen and Teresa Hernandez.

Visitation will start Tuesday afternoon at 4 pm at Baca’s Funeral Chapel with the rosary to follow at 6 o’clock. The funeral mass will be Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Fr. Ron Machado, CMF officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

Rachel was married to her sweetheart and love of her life, Fred Herrera, for 43 years before he passed, raising three (3) very successful children along the way. Her independence, resiliency, and love for her children will be remembered by her family and friends. Mom, we wish peace in your new home and may you reunite with our beloved father whom you have missed for so many years. We thank you for being a Mom who sacrificed so much for us and gave it your all.

She is survived by her daughter, Ana Romero and husband Daniel Romero of Las Vegas, Nevada, son, Michael Herrera and wife Gloria Sargent of Phoenix, Arizona, and son, James Herrera of Mesilla, New Mexico as well as her grandchildren, Rebekah Romero, Alexandria Herrera, Daniel Romero, and Matthew Herrera. She was preceded in death by her parents, her dear husband, Fred Herrera and sisters, Socorro Sainz, Mercy Rodriguez, of Deming, New Mexico and Mary Calderon, of Escondido, California.

We will always remember her love of cooking for her family and friends. She loved to look for new recipes and do her crossword and crypto quip puzzles. Our Mom loved accounting and bookkeeping as she worked with our Dad for many years. She instilled a love of lifelong learning for herself, her children, and grandchildren. We will miss her with all our hearts, but now we know she is with her Lord God and will be our guardian angel. She was a member of the Apostolado of the Sacred Heart.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Susan G. Komen.
