Cora Cecelia Johnson Bowers, 96, passed away January 13, 2020 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was born on February 28, 1923 in Roseau, Minnesota to Alfred Johnson and Addie Wehunt.
Cora grew up in South Carolina and married Sims D. Bowers in 1947 in Laurens, South Carolina. They were happily married for 70 years until his death in 2018.
Cora was employed by the Lordsburg Municipal Schools Cafeteria for many years. She enjoyed music, singing and playing the guitar and piano. She was also an artist and loved to paint.
Cora was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings, Ernest, Lucille, Vera, Alfred Jr. and Josephine
Cora is survived by three sons, Doug, (Irma) Bowers of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Mike, (Lisa) Bowers of Forest Chapel, Texas and Clint Bowers of Lordsburg, New Mexico; grandchildren Jason, Aaron, Kristen, Amy Sue, Amy Lee, Amanda, Eric, Jon, Koby, Shelby, Kelsey; His great-grandchildren Victoria, Bryce, Carmen, Tyler, Trevor, Emerie Nolan, Julee, Holly, Colton, Jon Jr, Adrienne and Alexiss; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at the First Baptist Church of Lordsburg, located at 332 E. 3rd St. at 11:00 AM. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the funeral services. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Lordsburg
