Edward R. Holguin passed away on October 5 at Fort Bayard Medical Center. He was born on July 6, 1924, to Panfilo F. and Daria Renteria Holguin, in Central aka Santa Clara, New Mexico.
Edward, called Liso by his close family and friends, worked as a business machine repairman for the original Western Stationers and then for Pete's Business Machines. He was an avid sports fan, having enjoyed playing ball throughout his younger years and into high school. He had a love for music and loved to dance. He was a life-time member of the Knights of Columbus and a faithful parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Church.
Edward was married to Rita Jimenez who passed away in 2013.
Surviving Edward are his daughters Maria Elena Sanchez (Richard), Christina Nicholson, and Lorraine Holguin; his grandchildren Melissa Robinson (Corey), Stephanie Sanchez (Antonio Jacquez), Christopher Nicholson (Mary) and April Perry (Bryan); and his great grandchildren Kensi Wheeler, Alyzae Jacquez, Liam Wheeler, Michael Nicholson, Jesse Perry, Antonio D. Jacquez, Amari Jacquez Amaya Jacquez and Hyrum Johnson. Also surviving are his beloved sister Adelina Sy Duran, many nieces and nephews, several godchildren, and all his family at Fort Bayard Medical Center. Preceding him in death were his parents Panfilo and Daria; sisters Elena Holguin and Felicitas H. Chavez; brothers Ramon R. Holguin, Petronilo (Pete) R. Holguin, Albert R. Holguin, Arthur R. Holguin and Alejandro Renteria; and his son-in-law Michael Nicholson.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 9, at 5:00 pm at Baca's Funeral Chapels, followed by the Prayer Vigil and Rosary at 6:00 pm led by Deacon William Holguin. The Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, October 10, at 9:30 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Silver City, officiated by Father Oliver Obele. Internment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be John Holguin, Pete Holguin, Jr. , Robert Holguin, Johnny Reed, Antonio Jacquez, Abraham Holguin, and Liam Wheeler. Honorary pallbearers will be Frederico Holguin and Sam Delgado.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored with donations to his special church, St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, PO Box 1189, Silver City, NM 88062.
