Helen Placencio

Helen Placencio, 90 of Silver City passed away, January 7, 2019 in Silver City surrounded by her family. 

Visitation will be on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 5 to 7 pm at Baca’s Funeral Chapels.  Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 9:30 am at St Francis Newman Center Parish.  The Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10 am.  Concluding service and burial will follow at the Gila Cemetery in Gila, NM.  Officiating will be Father Bartholomew Ezenwelem.  Serving as pallbearers will be Daniel Padilla, Gary Placencio, Frankie Legarda “Mito”, Anthony Alviso, Louis Placencio Jr. “Boona” and Ronald Placencio Jr.

Helen was born December 21, 1928 in San Lorenzo, NM to Bartolo Molina and Juanita Gomez Molina.  A lifelong area resident, she attended and graduated from Western New Mexico University with a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education.   She was on the Board of El Grito Head Start Program and also started and supervised the Co-op Program along with George Jaurequi.   Besides being involved in many other activities and involvement in the community, she found time to raise her children and pass time doing something she loved, embroidery.  Helen was also an avid sports fan who enjoyed keeping up with her beloved Cowboys, Dodgers and Lakers.  Helen will definitely be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Helen is survived by  her husband of 71 years, Rito; five sons, Nick Placencio (Christina), Louis Placencio(Rachel), David Placencio, Butch Placencio and Ronnie Placencio; three daughters, Mary Rita “Chata” Amador (Felix), Linda Medina, and Irene Legarda (Mike); one brother, Ernest Gomez; one sister Amelia Quintanar; 22 grandchildren, Nick and Natalie Placencio, Daniel Padilla (Amy), Jerry Amador (Melissa), Debra Amador (Mark), Felix Amador Jr. (Serina), Cynthia Cruz (Bill), Louis Placencio Jr. (Maria), Gena Placencio (Emmanuel), Gary Placencio (Denise), Jerry Medina (Melissa), Naomi Legarda, Maria Legarda, Frankie Legarda (Emily), Andrea Placencio,  Sophie Placencio (Savannah),  Anthony Alviso Ronald Placencio Jr., Tommy James Placencio (Deidre), Sandy Placencio and Jessica Placencio of Albuquerque, Herasmo Acosta Jr., and Maria Acosta; 56 great grandchildren and 16 great great grandchildren; step- daughter, Aurora Acosta of Albuquerque; two step-sons, Rito Placencio Jr. and Ruben Placencio also of Albuquerque.   Helen was preceded in death by three brothers, Eloy Gomez, Jose Maria Gomez and Manuel Gomez; one sister, Lupe Phillips; daughter, Maria Elena Placencio, five grandchildren, Jacqueline Placencio, David Placencio Jr., Geoffrey Placencio, Kendra Placencio and Martin Placencio.
