Jack Larby

On November 1, 2019 Jack Larby (90) passed away peacefully at Fort Bayard Medical Center.

Jack was born on April 19, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan to Mahmond Halel and Verna (Booth) Halel. He was married for 59 years to Joan Larby who passed away in 2009. Jack was survived by his four children: Stephen Larby and wife Threasa, Michael Larby and wife Rita, Sheree Anderson, and Judy Runnels and husband Matthew; ten grandchildren: Shane Larby, Krysta Larby, Amanda Larby, Candace Engler, Nichole Lear, Shawn Anderson, Shana Anderson, Zachary Armstrong, Mariah Runnels, and Sinea Runnels; and 6 great grandchildren.

Jack lived a long and colorful life. At the age of 9 he was adopted, along with his brother Mahamed (Mike) Halel. He went to school until 8^th grade and at 16 he left the Larby family. He joined the military at 18 and served for 42 years until he retired as a Master Sargent-E8 in 1989. In 1950 while stationed at Kirkland Airforce Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico he met his future wife. A man of many talents, he ran a farm, served as a sheriff, worked for animal control, and owned a truck stop. He loved to travel with his wife, and experience new places. Jack was also a man who stayed busy and could always be found working outside on one of his many projects. He was ornery, feisty, and a flirt right up until his last day. Jack was dearly loved and will be missed by many.

Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Funeral Chapels. Services will be help at Baca Funeral Home on November 18 at 12:30. A Military service will follow at 2:00 at Fort Bayard National Cemetery.
