John "Sonny" Chester York

John “Sonny” Chester York, 85, of Mimbres passed away on Monday, July 15, 2019 at his residence.

Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Funeral Chapels.  A Memorial Service will take place on Friday, August 2, 2019 at two o’clock in the afternoon at Baca’s Funeral Chapels  in Silver City.  Officiating will be Pastor Josh Hunt.

John was born on March 5, 1934 to James Chester York and Lillian Kight Harris in Derry, New Mexico. He served in the United States Navy as Gunners Mate 2^nd Class and was honorably discharged.  John was a New Mexico State University graduate and went to work for the USDA Soil Conseration Service for 30 years.  He also served as Grant County Farm Bureau President.

John is survived by his wife, Josephine Franzoy York; children, John Craig and Christine York, Daun Ann York Broome and Jeffrey Broome, Nolen Patrick York, Heather Liana York Turner and Ty Turner; daughter-in-law, Dena Mills; grandchildren, Jocelyn York Fong and Thomas Fong, Clayton York, Hannah York, Shiloh Graffius, Savannah York, Garrison York, Adelynne York, Gavin Turner and Ian Turner; sister, Sissy Franzoy; adopted daughter, Sally O’Connor; sister-in-law, Annie Mora; nieces, nephews, family and countless friends.
