JUAN PORTILLO MORALEZ
Born: May 23,1935 El Paso TX Died: August 27, 2019 Long Island, NY
Juan was born to Ramona Moralez and Juan Moralez. He went to Gadsden NM public schools and was a member of the 1953 Football Panther State Champions which started the dynasty of 30-0 and the 1954 and 1955 championships. It was a longstanding record in the country for consecutive victories. Mr. Moralez attended New Mexico State University for a brief stint and went to work for the New Mexico State Highway Department as a Surveyor. He enlisted in the New Mexico Army National Guard and continued in various capacities including Battery Commander for 200th Air Defense Artillery Battalion retiring as Captain after 20 years. He was employed as a Post Man/Letter Carrier, Police Officer for the City of Lordsburg, where he single handed apprehended an armed bank robber. Mr Moralez then started his career as an underground Miner at the Banner Mine. He continued at the open pit mine working for Phelps Dodge-Tyrone NM as a mill repairman and retiring after 20 years. He enjoyed firearms and was an expert marksman.
Mr. Moralez was preceded in death by his mother Ramona and sister Yvonne. He is survived by his brother Armando Moralez and niece Felicia, nephews Jesus and Edwardo Moralez, and brother Leon Moralez. His son, Jon-Michael Moralez and grandsons Jonathon and Joseph Moralez. Daughters Judiann and Joselyn Moralez.
In his later years he enjoyed the company of our favorite dog Rosey, “La Negrita” and developed a special bond with him and would visit him at the hospital on a regular basis. Rest In Peace Captain and always my dad!
Cremation will take place and no local services will be held.
