Lorenzo "Lencho" Castrillo Obituary

Lorenzo P. Castrillo Jr., 94, of Hurley passed away on Sunday October 21, 2018 at Fort Bayard Medical Center.

 

Visitation will take place on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at five o’clock in the evening at Baca’s Funeral Chapels with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary to follow at six o’clock.  Officiating will be Dr. Gilbert Arizaga.  On Monday, October 29, 2018 the Funeral Liturgy will be at ten o’clock in the morning at Infant Jesus Shrine in Hurley.

Concluding services and burial will follow at the Hurley Cemetery. Officiating will be Father Mike Williams.     Serving as pallbearers will be Norman Castrillo Sr., Albert Castrillo Jr., Matthew Castrillo, Marvin Morales, Eric Morales and Senator Howie Morales.   Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Morales Jr., Eloy Pena, Lolo Lara, Loretta Lara, Angelica Lara, Genaro Marin Sr., Dennis Quintana, Roderick Quintana, John William Hernandez, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.

 

“Lencho” de Deming, as he was known was born on March 16, 1924 to Lorenzo and Octaviana Ponce Castrillo Sr. in San Lorenzo, but raised in Deming.  He had worked for Kennecott Copper for 19 years before working and retiring from Fort Bayard Medical Center after 26 years. Lencho loved his music, never leaving behind his harmonica and playing his saxophone.  He enjoyed most sports, including baseball, football, boxing, and golf.  Lencho was known for riding his bicycle and his flower pots made from old tires.  He was also a member of the Roman Catholic Church.  Lencho will be missed all who knew and loved him.

 

Lorenzo is survived by his son, Albert Castrillo (Dolores) of Arenas Valley; daughters, Sylvia Gomez (Alex) of Silver City and Helen Morales of Tyrone; grandchildren, Valerie Montes, Albert Castrillo Jr., Denise Mathis, Amy Herrera, Yvonne Hernandez, Norman Castrillo, Marcella Perry, Senator Howie Morales, Marvin Morales, Michelle Silvas and Eric Morales Sr.; 31 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.  Besides his parents, Lorenzo and Octaviana, he was preceded in death by his wife, Luz; infant son, Bobby; and brother, Eloy Castrillo.
