Olivia (Almeraz) Reyes

Olivia Almeraz Reyes, a mother, grandmother, friend and a retired teacher of El Paso, Texas, passed away on June 2, 2019, at the age of 70, due to unexpected health complications.

Olivia Reyes, also lovingly known as Boy, was born on December 19, 1948, in Deming, New Mexico, where she was raised before moving to Texas. There she attended the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) where she earned a Bachelor Degree in Education. She started her teaching career at Loma Terrace Elementary, and also worked at Fort Hancock and Berino elementary schools teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to first graders.

Olivia, as a loving mother, kept herself very busy raising four daughters. When her daughters were young, she would spend a lot of time running around taking them to folklorico and other activities. During those years she also tried her hand selling Mary Kay, where she was a success and won a trip to Dallas. The trip to Dallas peaked her interest in travel, where she spent some time traveling around the United States and Europe. Later in life when she was blessed with grandchildren, she spent a lot of time taking care of them and helping out with their homework.

Olivia leaves behind a legacy of being a fun, loving, and beautiful women. She is known to light up a room with her warm smile and make anyone she meets feel welcomed and like an old friend. She always enjoyed meeting new people and hearing how she didn't look her age. Her motto was "flattery will get you everywhere."

Olivia is survived by her daughters Veronica Reyes, Gloria Reyes, and Victoria Reyes; her grandchildren Diego McClaskey, Danielle Carrillo, Mateo Dominguez Ariana Dominguez, and Kyle and Ethan Reed; her siblings Socorro Payan, Liz Montano and Raul Almeraz. She is predeceased in death by her daughter Blanca Reyes; parents Fred (Lico) and Blaza Ponce Almeraz and siblings Fred Jr and Lourdes A Rodriguez.

Funeral service will be held this Friday, June 7th by Evergreen East Funeral Home 12400 East Montana El Paso, TX, 79938 from 6-9pm (Rosary @ 7pm). The Mass will be held Saturday, June 8th, 9:00 am at Saint Mark's Catholic Church 11700 Pebble Hills Blvd, El Paso, TX 79936. The burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery 3410 E Pine St, Deming, NM 88030 at 2pm.
