Phillip Walsmith Obituary

Phillip G Walsmith, 77 of Lordsburg passed away Sunday, February17, 2019 at Mountain View Medical Center in Las Cruces.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 809 Pyramid St. in Lordsburg, NM.  The Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 pm.  Concluding Service and Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Lordsburg.  Officiating will be Bishop Mat Miller.  Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Schmitt II, Phillip Schmitt, Matthew Schmitt, Adam Walsmith, Alan Walsmith, and Gerald O’Donnell.  Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Schmitt I, Frank Walsmith, Lloyd Payne, Roger Payne, Leon Speer, and Jim Tomerlin.

Phil was born July 7, 1941 in Anthony, NM to George and Pauline (Smithson) Walsmith.  He had served his country honorably in the United States Air Force for eight years.  He returned after Basic Training and married his High School sweetheart, Gloria Dugan.  They had been married for 58 years as of January 16th, 2019.  Phil had done many things in his life, he had taught Business and Math in Mesa Arizona at the college level, as well as serving Maricopa County as a Deputy Sheriff.  He had owned and operated a Mobil Gas Station and had been an Industrial Engineer for Motorola.   Phil had many hobbies that included piloting airplanes, woodworking and crossword puzzles.  Phil was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Phil is survived by his wife, Gloria of the family home, one son Phillip Perry Walsmith of Reno, NV; one daughter Terry L Schmitt (Kevin) of Plantersville, TX; two brothers, Frank Walsmith (Doris) of Hanover, NM and Jack Walsmith of Virginia.  Also surviving Phil are four grandchildren, Kevin (Mia) Schmitt II; Kayla Schmitt; Phillip (Trinity) Schmitt; Matthew Schmitt; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Pauline Walsmith; and two sisters, Beverly Schulz and Jeanette Poe.
