Rufina B Chacon, "Chukie" 76, of Silver City, passed away June 20, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be from 8:30 am to 10 am on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Baca’s Funeral Chapels. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will follow at 10 am. Concluding service and burial will follow at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pall bearers will be Eric Jacquez, Orlando Ortega Jr., Michael Barragan Jr., Arturo Chavez, Roy Barragan, Jeremy Barragan, Theodore Muniz, and Jacob Chacon. Honorary pallbearers will be all her grandchildren, Renee Chacon and Richard Barragan.
"Chukie" as she was affectionately known was born April 18, 1943 in Silver City to Manuel and Ramona (Pena) Barragan. She loved playing Bingo with her BFF’s and spending time at the nearby casinos. Rufina enjoyed spending time watching her favorite, Dallas Cowboys football and professional golf. Her greatest joy though was being the matriarch of the family, cooking and spending quality time with all her family. Rufina will definately be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Rufina is survived by her sons, Steve Chavez, Robert Chacon, Michael (Patty) Barragan, Manuel (Gena) Chacon, Teddy Chacon and special son, Jacob Chacon. Daughters, Mary (Ted) Muniz, Virginia (Loretta) Barragan, and Lydia Chacon (Raul Pena). Five surviving, Candelario (Jeannie) Barragan, Delia (Isidro) Altamirano, Jimmy (Grace) Barragan, Connie (Joseph) Parra, and Molly (Dennis) Acosta.19 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Rufina also is survived by multiple step-sons and step-daughters that she adored and enjoyed spending time with. Rufina was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Ramona; sister, Linda Jacquez, and three brothers, David Barragan, Richard Barragan, and Manuel Barragan, Jr.
