Abigail Gavaldon

Abigail “Debbie” Gavaldon, 78, a resident of Albuquerque passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Abigail was born December 12, 1946 in Lordsburg, NM to Aurora and Carlos Ochoa.

Abigail was the second oldest of 17 children. From a young age she took pride in helping care for many of her siblings and was a mother figure to them. Her love language was service and did it with endless generosity, love, and care. While in Deming she worked at the Deming Packing Company in the early 1960’s before moving to Albuquerque, NM with her husband Juan Gavaldon in 1968. There, Abby enjoyed working in retail where she met many of her lifelong friends. Abby retired after 20 years of employment with Sears. This allowed her to take on a new role as a bookkeeper working with her husband Juan in building their local businesses. Abby was happy gardening and took pride in the beautiful plants and flowers she grew. She enjoyed watching sports, keeping up with the latest trends in fashion and home decor and curling up reading a great book was a passion. Abby was a daughter, wife, sister, auntie, and friend that found joy in blessing those around her regardless of the distance.  

She is survived by her husband Juan Gavaldon of Albuquerque, NM; her siblings, Mary (Fernando) Flores, Esther Guzman, Dora (Arthur) Ochoa, Ofelia Gonzalez, Mary Helen Ochoa, Romelia Soto, Nicolas Ochoa, David (Norma) Ochoa, Michael Ochoa, Norma (Bob) Bills, and Lisa Ochoa

Abigail is preceded in death by her parents Carlos Sr. and Aurora Ochoa; her siblings, Carlos Ochoa Jr., Gumecindo Ochoa, Gabriel Ochoa, and Alice Porras; her nephew, Jacob Garcia and her niece, Marissa Ochoa.

Services for Abigal will commence on Friday, July 18, 2025 at Holy Family Catholic Church, beginning with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 10:30 AM which will be led by Suzanne Lundy.  The memorial mass will follow at 11 and will be celebrated by Fr. Prakasham Babu.
