Alfonso Torres

Alfonso Torres Sr., 78, a resident of Bayard, New Mexico, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 17, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.

Cremation has taken place in accordance with his wishes.

A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at one o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, October 4, 2021 at Baca’s Funeral Chapels in Silver City, New Mexico. Concluding Services and Inurnment will follow at Pinos Altos Cemetery in Pinos Altos, New Mexico. Officiating is Deacon Art Gutierrez.

Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Gilbert Sanchez Jr., Michael Lopez, LeRoy Mascarenas, Eddie Cuevas, Fred Cuevas, Felix Torres, Sonny Torres, and Vince Torres.

Alfonso was born on March 20, 1943 in Pinos Altos, New Mexico to Gilbert Benavidez Torres and Agnes Flores Torres.

Alfonso loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed being around children, especially his grandchildren. He also loved painting cars and fixing up older models. Showing his ‘1927’ at car shows was a favorite pastime of his.

He is preceded in death by two sisters, Peggy Torres and Erlinda Diaz; two brothers, Gilbert and Alex Torres; his son-in-law, Gilbert Barragan; and his nephew Gilbert Torres Jr.

Alfonso is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Gloria Jean Ybarra Torres, “Jean”, of the family home; son, Alfonso Torres Jr. (Rhonda); daughter, Cynthia Barragan (Gilbert Sanchez Jr.); four grandchildren, Vince Torres, Amber Perez (Bryan), Roselynn and Alexandra “Ali” Barragan; two great-grandchildren, Hailey and Noah Perez; three sisters, Mary Marrufo (Rudy), Millie Misquez, Dolly Chavez; and one brother, Felix Torres (Lucy).
