Amador R. Reyes III

Amador R. Reyes III (Moyer), 52 of Hurley, NM passed away on February 9th, 2021 in Santa Fe, NM. He was born in San Gabriel, CA to Amador Jr. and Patricia Reyes.

Moyer graduated from Cobre High School, a part of the Class of 1986. He participated in football and baseball, but excelled in wrestling. He met his high school sweetheart Debra Gallardo, who he married in 1993. In 1987, he began his employment with the US Forest Service, working as a firefighter until 1993. Following his employment with the US Forest Service, Moyer worked for Southwest Railroad as a trackman for several years. Moyer then started his mining career with Cobre Mines as an underground miner. In the last 20 plus years, he expanded his career with several positions throughout all the transitions in the mining district. The most recent was a water treatment operator for Freeport McMoran. Moyer was always starting new hobbies and interests, such as learning to make his own flies for fly fishing, slow pitch softball, making jerky, and most recently, canning. Moyer’s biggest hobby was hunting! He loved all things hunting, especially with family and friends. Moyer was most proud when he was able to take his children out with him. He enjoyed teaching and helping them learn this skill. Moyer’s last kill was his most prized accomplishment; becoming the New Mexico state record holder for Muzzleloader Big Horn Sheep. If you knew Moyer, you knew he loved the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chicago Cubs. He was fortunate to see these teams win a Super Bowl and a World Series. How can we forget his love of music, especially Hard Rock?! He was a champ at “name that tune” anytime a song would play. Lastly, he truly loved cooking for anyone that would come to visit him in his Man Cave!! He enjoyed gathering with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Debra I. Reyes, his children Amador M. Reyes IV and Madelyn J. Reyes. His mother Patricia Reyes of Hurley NM, brother Albert Reyes of Safford AZ, brother Raymond Reyes and his wife Monica of Silver City, NM, and sister Rachel Zich and husband Joseph of Carson City, NV. He is also survived by his mother in law Josie Gallardo of Bayard NM, brother in law Robbie Gallardo and wife Melissa of Bayard, NM, and sister in law Kathy Fletcher and husband Steve of Santa Clara, NM and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Amador T. Reyes, Jr., grandparents, and father in law Robert M. Gallardo.

Due to Covid -19 restrictions, only 30% of the capacity of the church will be allowed, wearing a mask is mandatory and social distancing will be enforced.

Viewing will take place on Thursday, February 18, 2021 from four-thirty to five-thirty in the evening at Infant Jesus Shrine in Hurley. The Prayer Vigil and Rosary will begin at six o’clock in the evening and will be a private service for the immediate family. Officiating will be Deacon Art Gutierrez. A Private Funeral Mass will be on Friday, February 18, 2021 at ten o’clock in the morning at Infant Jesus Shrine for the immediate family. Officiating will be Father Casmir Anozie. Concluding services and burial follow at the Hurley Cemetery. The public will be asked to keep a ten foot distance from the burial site, and will be mandatory to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Serving as pallbearers will be, Amador M. Reyes IV, Albert Reyes, Raymond Reyes, Robbie Gallardo, Steve Fletcher, and Danny Garcia. Honorary pallbearers are Madelyn J. Reyes, Marisa Gallardo, Joseph Gallardo, Kristina Fletcher, Steven Jacob Fletcher, Emily Zich, Santiago Arredondo, Zachary Reyes, Jasmine Reyes, Joslyn Reyes, Victoria Reyes, Aaron Reyes, and all other family and friends.
