Tony died suddenly January 3, 2020 at his home in Silver City.
Visitation for Tony will be from 5 to 6 pm on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Baca’s Funeral Chapels where the recitation of the Holy Rosary will follow at 6 pm. The Funeral Mass will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 10, 2020 at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church. At Tony’s request, cremation will follow. Serving as pallbearers will be Antonio Rivera, Raymond Walker, Raymond Walker, Jr, Ryan Walker, Jose Rivera, Alfonso Rivera, Jacob Rivera and Tony Rivera. Honorary pallbearers will be all other members of his beloved family.
Tony was born to Felipe and Maria Rivera on March 22, 1949 in North Hurley. He was one of twelve siblings whom he loved dearly. The family was raised in North Hurley and Bayard. Tony served our local communities with his service as a police officer for the Hurley Police Department, Central Police Department and Grant County Sheriff’s Department. He was also a volunteer fire fighter for the Bayard Fire Department and a first responder for Grant County Ambulance. Tony was a man of many talents, working in retail, mining, landscaping, equipment operator and maintenance. He was not afraid to learn new skills. Tony’s hobbies were spending time with his kids and friends. He loved woodcutting, camping, fixing cars, playing softball as well as coaching little league. Tony was a man with a huge heart and would give you the shirt off of his back if you needed it. He will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Tony is survived by his children, three daughters, Jeanette Rivera of Phoenix, AZ., Barbara Rivera (Tony) of Elko, NV, Genevieve Walker (Raymond) of Sand Springs, OK; one son, Antonio Rivera (Amber) of Deming; his wife, Gloria Rivera of Silver City; twelve grandchildren, Jose, Alfonso and Jacob Rivera, Raymond, Angelica, Gabrielle, Ryan, Hunter, Isabelle, Alexis and Sophia Walker and Elijah Rivera; seven great-grandchildren, Lucianno, Branden, Arriel, Peytyn, Kaizley, Nianna and Mathayus Rivera; one brother, Willie Rivera (DeeAnn) of NM; six sisters, Alta Hicks (Gene) of Louisiana, Lupe Bobbitt of Alabama, Tessie Franks of Louisiana, Candie Rivera (Paul) of Colorado, Martha Cervantes of Colorado and Yolie Castillo (Cheve) of Colorado; numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving Tony are his beloved pets, Roxy and Gidgett. He was preceded in death by his parents, Felipe and Maria; one brother, Lorenzo; two sisters, Maria Aldita and Josephina; one son, Manuelito Rivera.
