Antonio Vigil Obituary

Antonio V. Vigil, 94, longtime Animas resident entered eternal rest Wednesday March 17, 2021 at his home.

Visitation will be held Monday morning, March 22, 2021, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lordsburg at 9 o’clock where a rosary will be recited at 10 o’clock led by Alice Ramirez. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 with Fr. Jude Okonkwo, Pastor officiating. Concluding services and interment will take place at Shakespeare Cemetery. Livestream will be provided. Covid restrictions will be in place with masks and social distancing required.  Maximum church capacity is 70.

Antonio was born January 17, 1927 in Delerdo, Chihuahua, Mexico to Marianna and Desiderio Vigil. He married the love of his life, Maria Loera and moved to Animas in 1949 where they raised their family together. Antonio came from Mexico as a bracero working most of his life in cotton farming, a passion in which he lived and worked most of his entire life. He also had his own garden and raised pigs.  Antonio loved his family but his greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Maria of the home; his children, Bertha Vigil of Colorado, Antonio Vigil Jr. of Animas, Guadalupe Vigil and his wife Maria of Colorado, Silvia Duran and her husband Noel of Delicias, Chihuahua, Mexico, Toribio Vigil and his wife Eloisa of San Simon, AZ, Efren Vigil of Colorado, Eva Salazar and her husband Martin of Safford, AZ, Gabriela Nesbitt and her husband Lamont of Atlanta, GA and Alfredo Vigil and his wife Monica of Morenci, AZ; brother, Pedro Vigil of Tijuana, MX; 31 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. 

Preceded in death by his parents, Desideria and Mariana Vigil; sister, Eugenia and brother, Silverio.

Serving as pallbearers will be Guadalupe Vigil, Antonio Vigil Jr., Toribio Vigil, Alfredo Vigil, Martin Salazar, Marcos Salazar, Joe Maldonado and Martin Salazar Jr.
