BARBARA ANN (CARINI) ORQUIZ
MAY 17, 1942 - JULY 5, 2026
Barbara Ann Orquiz, 84, a longtime resident of Deming entered eternal rest on Sunday, July 5, 2026 at The Beehive Homes of Deming. Beloved mother, grandmother, a loving wife, a friend to everyone she met and loved by all.
Barbara was born in Mishawaka, Indiana on May 17, 1942 to Angela and William Carini. She attended her school years in Argos, Indiana. After school she married and raised a family in the Midwest until moving to Deming to be closer to her parents when they retired and moved to Deming. She worked as a dental assistant in the Deming Dental Office where she met her lifelong partner Arnold Orquiz and married on July 24, 1976.
Barbara lived a fulfilling life raising her family and working alongside Arnold to build a thriving business, Amigo’s Mexican Foods, that was a successful and well-known staple of Deming for many years. She took pride in running Amigo’s side by side with Arnold and enjoyed their daily ritual of starting their day with a coffee every morning.
She never met a stranger, always making friends wherever she went. Everyone knew Barbara whether in Deming or other surrounding areas as she crossed paths during business as well as in fun times. If you knew her you knew her perfectly coifed hair, her beautifully lipstick smile and her obvious love for clothes. She was well known and well liked and one could not go far in Deming without hearing a story of how caring, kind and liked she was.
Barbara loved shopping, catching up with her children and getting together for family gatherings or going out to eat. She loved her cats and was always taking in and feeding the strays. There was even a time when she was kindly feeding a family of skunks that had taken up residence in her backyard in spite of our warnings to not feed the local wildlife.
Camping and traveling were her most favorite past times, something she learned to love from her parents. She loved to get away and relax. Although she was not able to visit some of the exotic places she dreamed of, she did get to take many trips in the states and see the countryside during the less busy time of running a business. Including yearly trips to Disney and California with the boys to visit extended Orquiz family. Her most enjoyable trips and most exciting memories was her trip to see Graceland as well as short trips to Pancho Villa State Park each Easter every year with a camper for a family picnic; a tradition that was started with her parents and carried on throughout the years.
She loved Christmas as evident from her massive collection of Christmas decorations, her beautifully decorated Christmas tree every year, her festive attire with always matching holiday earrings and her well planned large family dinners for the holidays.
She loved going to the casino and some of her most special times were when Arnold would surprise her with a trip to Las Vegas as well as when we could join her as a family.
Her passing will leave a huge void. She is survived by her children, Michelle (Jeff) Logan, Monica (Steve) Bounds, Guillermo (Stacey) Orquiz, and Brian (Rani) Orquiz; Step-sons, Arnold, Armando and Noel Orquiz; Grandchildren, Alex, Angelo, Natalia, and Megan; 3 great-grandchildren, as well as extended family in Indiana.
Predeceased by her loving husband, Arnold and her beloved parents Angela and Bill Carini.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Deming Beehive Homes for their love and exceptional care of our mother. We are grateful for everyone’s love, prayers, and support during our loss.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026 from 9 to 10 o’clock in the morning at Holy Family Catholic Church where the recitation of the Holy Rosary will be recited at 10 led by Suzanne Lundy. The Mass of Christian Burial will then be celebrated at 10:30 followed by the rite of committal and interment at Mountain View Cemetery. Fr. Prakasham Babu will be officiating.
