Bernard J. Hopper, 85, a resident of Deming passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Mimbres Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be held Friday, February 18, 2022 at 11 o’clock in the morning at Holy Family Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Fr. Prakasham Babu, Pastor will officiate. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.
Bernard was born August 20, 1936 in New York City, NY to John and Elizabeth (Murray) Hopper. Bernard served his county honorably in the United States Army. He was an aircraft mechanic for TWA for many years before retiring. He married Mary J. Liccione and together they raised 3 beautiful children. They moved to Deming in 2008 from Colorado where they made Deming their home until his passing. Bernard was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and member of the Knights of Columbus as well as the American Legion and Senior Circle. On his spare time, he enjoyed cooking and often volunteered at the hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Hopper of the home; his 3 children, James J. (Christine) Hopper of Elmont, NY, Mary Beth (Skip) Gormley of Crofton, MD and Patty (Jeffery Emeneckr) Hopper of Johns Creek, GA; as well as 5 grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Hopper and 3 siblings, Walter Hopper, Joan Siani and Helen Kollmann.
