Berna was born in Palma, NM to Librato Romero and Rosario Chavez. Her loving husband Bobby, of 63 years, describes Berna as the best wife, homemaker, and cook. She was a loving mother of five, but to everyone else she was Nana. Her favorite pastimes were watching old westerns, solving word search puzzles, and shopping. Berna’s house was her pride and joy and full of family memories. Every time you visited, you could expect to find a new knick knack and never to leave on an empty stomach.
Berna is survived by her beloved husband, Bobby of the home; her five children, Robert, Johnny (Barbara), Phillip, Rosemary and Julie; six grandchildren, Andrew Mares, Victoria Torres, Jerimiah Mares, Katrina Carrillo, Miranda Mares and Jacob Garcia; nine great-grandchildren including her baby, Phoenix; two brothers, Toney Romero and William Romero; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Librato and Rosario; brothers, Phillip, Albert and Joe; her sisters, Lucille and Linda; her best friend, Patsy Cordova.
