Berta Elizabeth "Liz" Long

BERTA ELIZABETH  “LIZ” LONG, 69, resident of Lordsburg passed away Friday September 10, 2021 at the Las Cruces Post Acute Rehabiliation Center in Las Cruces.

A rosary will be Saturday morning, September 18, 2021 at 10 o’clock at St. Joseph Catholic Church where a Memorial Mass will immediately follow.  Fr. Jude Okonkwo, Pastor will be officiating. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.

Liz was born February 27, 1952 in San Acacia, New Mexico.  She lived in Lordsburg, El Paso, and Deming before returning to Lordsburg in 2018 to be near her family.  She worked for many years at the Road Forks and 4K Truck Stops.  Her favorite pastime was her great grandchildren and tending to her little dog Eva.  Elizabeth was an avid 49ers fan.

She is survived by her children, Roxanne Vasquez (James) of Lordsburg, NM, Russell David Smith of Lordsburg, NM,  Rose M. Cortez-Callaway (Anthony) of Lordsburg, NM, Virgil James Widby Jr. (Someeun) of Silver City, NM Robert Lewis Long (Trish)  of Chaparral NM, and Shelly Lyn Long of Chaparral, NM; siblings Frank Hidalgo (Carmen) of Tucson, AZ, La Jennie Cortez of Lordsburg, NM, Belia Sanchez  (Ernie) of Lordsburg, NM,  Manuel Cortez, (Kathryn) of Houston, TX and Sylvia Flores (Billy) of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Richard Anthony Vasquez of Lordsburg, NM, Alberto Miguel Chiwi Vasquez (Claire) of Lordsburg, NM, Cassandra Monic Vasquez Martinez (Nathan) of Tucson, AZ, James-Michael Anthony Callaway (Nikole) of Lordsburg, NM,  Derrick Steven Callaway (Terrell) of Lordsburg, NM, Andrianna Rose Callaway (Jaime) of Cotton City, NM, Joel Rodriguez of Tucson, AZ, David Smith of Tucson, AZ, Jacob Nathaniel Smith (Alyssa) of Tucson, AZ, Whitney Rae Long of Chaparral, NM, Jacob Dale Lytle (Nicole) of Bastrop, TX, and Caytee Lytle-King (Cameron) of Chaparral, NM, and Shandiin Kayla Lorelei Khalsa of Silver City, NM;  22 great grandchildren, 8 nieces and nephews, 10 great nieces and nephews, and 11 aunts and uncles.  Liz was preceded in death by her mother, Rosalie Hidalgo Cortez, father Heliodoro Cortez, husband Billy Long, niece Marissa Flores and nephew Mark Flores.
