Bertha Esquivel Gonzales, 81, lifelong Deming resident passed away peacefully on Monday, December 30, 2024 at Mimbres Memorial Nursing Home in Deming.
A viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, January 8, 2025 from 5 to 6 o’clock in the evening at Baca’s Funeral Chapel. The Holy Rosary will then be recited at 6, which will be led by Patsy Leyba. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated the following day Thursday, January 9, 2025 at 11 o’clock in the morning at Holy Family Catholic Church. The rite of committal and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
Bertha was born on May 29, 1943 in Deming, New Mexico to Adolfo Esquivel and Bertha Estrada. Bertha was a very sweet, kindhearted, and loving lady to many. She was very helpful to others and valued good morals, she always offered good advice and life lessons to her many family members and friends. Bertha had many characteristics which included being very compassionate and considerate, creative, and artistic, and a proud and strong-willed woman. And at times a little stubborn. She was a religious woman and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She was involved in prayer groups and taught catechism. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing and crochet. Bertha loved her children very much and did so much for them and gave her all to be the best mother to them. She will truly be missed.
She is survived by her children, Manuel (Carmie) Luera, Birdie (Bobby) Young, and Paula Martinez; a brother, Calletano Guerrero; as well as her 12 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, Adolfo, and Bertha Esquivel; a daughter, Genoveva “Veva” Luera; 9 siblings; 3 grandchildren, Gidget Young, Bertha Andrea Chavez, and Juanito Angel.
Serving as Bertha’s pallbearers will be Manny Luera, Gerone Luera, Donny Chavez, Joaquin Angel, Isaac Young, and Martin Serna.
