Catarino "Nino" V. Lopez Jr.

Catarino “Nino” V. Lopez, Jr., 96, of Silver City passed away Sunday, October 13, 2024 at his home surrounded by is family.

At the family’s request, cremation will take place.  Recitation of the Holy Rosary and Prayer Vigil will be at 10:00 o’clock in the morning on Monday, October 21, 2024 at Baca’s Funeral Chapels.  Concluding Service and inurnment will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery.  Officiating will be Deacon Bill Holguin.

“Nino” as he was affectionately known was born February 19, 1928 in Silver City, NM to Catarino and Anita Villalobos Lopez.  Nino, worked and retired from the Town of Silver City in the Water and Wastewater Department after 30 years of service.  He was a self-educated and hardworking man, who enjoyed going out and cutting wood, or helping his friends work in their yard.  Some of the things he really enjoyed were playing Bingo, watching western movies, or cheering on his favorite boxer, “Canelo” Alvarez.  Above all, Nino was a great and loving Father and Husband.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Nino is survived by his wife of 56 years, Celia “Sally” Lopez; sons, Steven Lopez and Ernie Lopez; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; special nephew, Willie Aragon; special daughter-in-law, Gloria Lopez; special sister-in-law, Bea Baca (Larry); and special comadre, Alicia Cardoza; numerous nephews, nieces and bingo friends.  Nino was preceded in death by his parents, Catarino and Anita Villalobos Lopez; sisters, Demesia “Mecha” Garcia, Ruperta “Ruby” Aragon, Rosa Elias, Luisa Barragan; brothers, Juanito Lopez, Alfonso ”Ponchito” Ybarra, Thomas Ybarra; sons, Jesus “Jesse” Lopez, Billy Lopez, Joe Lopez; and daughter, Anita Levario.
