Charles “Chuck” Levon Moriarty, 78, Deming resident passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at 3:03pm at the University Medical Center in El Paso, TX.
He is survived by his wife Rachel and her two daughters, Jamie and Chauncey; his two sons, Christopher and Curtis; his younger brother, Phillip, and his many grandchildren, Gabby, Gabriel, Harley, Ben, Noah, Jayda Lynn, Michael Devon, Damieon, Derek, & Noah David.
Chuck was born March 7, 1946 as the oldest of 4 brothers, he attended Loretto High School in Tennessee and Florence State College in Alabama before joining the United States Air Force in the 1960’s prior to the Vietnam War. Chuck was an electrical technician in the Air Force for high altitude aircraft and was deployed to Argentina, Germany, and Alaska during his time in the service, later settling in Albuquerque, NM. Chuck was always proud to be a veteran and to have served his country, following his father’s footsteps who served in World War II, while later encouraging his two sons to join the military. Chuck was an avid athlete throughout his life playing many sports, he loved playing poker with the guys, working on vehicles, and was always a great storyteller. Chuck built a house for his family in Albuquerque, NM and worked with his brother-in-law installing infrared heaters across the southwest. Chuck later worked for PNM for many years, re-settling in Deming, NM in the mid 1980’s and eventually retiring in the mid 2000’s. He later had multiple ventures including rental properties and a laundromat that he ran for several years before fully retiring. Chuck was diagnosed with Wegener’s disease in the mid 2010’s, a disease that affected his kidney function and ability to breathe, eventually succumbing to the illness after many years. Chuck will be loved, missed, and remembered by many.
Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Air Force on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 11 o’clock in the morning at Ft. Bayard National Cemetery in Santa Clara, NM. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.
