FIVE GENERATIONS CELEBRATE THE LIFE OF DAVID PERU PROVENCIO

David Peru Provencio, age 88, entered into eternal rest on June 4, 2026, at his home in Bayard, New Mexico. During his final days, he was surrounded by five generations of family, extended family, and friends, reflecting a life rooted in faith, family, love, and devotion to those he held dear.

David was born on June 9, 1937, in Santa Rita, New Mexico, to Albino G. Provencio and Aurora Peru Provencio. On June 16, 1957, he married the love of his life, Mary Lucero Provencio. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service, sharing nearly 69 years of marriage and creating a legacy that now spans five generations.

David attended Hurley Elementary School, Bayard Elementary School, and Hurley High School. As a young man, he worked in construction in Las Cruces and later in California before returning to Grant County. Upon his return, he helped construct what is now Cobre High School. He later worked for Model Cleaners and Bailey's Market before beginning a long career with Chino Mines, which later became Phelps Dodge following its acquisition. During his years there, David worked as a truck driver, mechanic apprentice, and eventually Supervisor of the Oil House and Tire Shop. He remained with the company until a workplace accident brought his career to an end.

A faithful member of the Apostolic faith for more than 75 years, David was baptized at the age of 13 and remained committed to serving God throughout his life. He was actively involved in local, sector, and district Men's Auxiliary ministries within the Apostolic Assembly, serving as a Sunday School teacher, youth counselor, Men's Auxiliary President, church secretary, treasurer, Bible study leader, and supporter of missions. He helped build the Central Apostolic Church, the original Santa Clara Apostolic Church, and the Bayard Apostolic Church. Together with his wife, he ministered to others through hospital visitation, Bible studies, and missionary outreach, including visits to missionaries in Bolivia and Argentina. Supporting missions was one of his greatest passions.

David enjoyed fishing, camping, family history research, playing Scrabble, Chess, Phase 10, and Uno, and was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers fan. He was a gifted craftsman who created belt buckles and bolo ties and enjoyed art, music, current events, and investing. He was known for his strong work ethic, generosity, sense of humor, and deep commitment to family.

David is survived by the love of his life and devoted wife of nearly 69 years, Mary Lucero Provencio; his daughters, Ruth Provencio-Dalton (Alfonso), Cynthia Provencio Jones (Travis), and Cheryl Provencio-Ford (Daniel); his six  grandchildren, Penny Dalton Torres (Juan), Sherina Dalton Gallegos (Robert), Isaac Martinez (Ben), Isaiah Martinez (Destany), Cindy Renee Provencio, and Zoya Joyy Provencio-Torres (Hector); his eleven great-grandchildren, Daquiri Dalton Torres, Kaleb Gallegos (Aiyana), Sierra Dalton Torres (Matt), Cevanna Gallegos (Kaleb), Zara Dalton Torres (Brian), Tobiaz David Gallegos, Johan Dalton Torres, Malakhi Dalton Torres, Xander Torres, Xakai Dalton Torres, and Xylianna Torres; his three great-great-grandchildren, Micah Gallegos, Kailani Kartchner, and Ezra Gallegos; his brothers, Jimmy (Lila), Daniel, Sammy (Virginia), Andy (Nancy); sisters, Mary Ann and RuthAnn (Paul), and  many bonus grand, great grand and great-great grand children.

Viewing will be held Friday, June 19, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Baca's Funeral Chapels, 3805 Delk Drive, Silver City, New Mexico 88061.

Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Santa Clara Apostolic Church, 906 Oak Street, Santa Clara, New Mexico.  Officiating will be Bishop Andy Provencio.  Interment will follow at Bayard Cemetery, with a Faith • Family • Legacy Reception immediately following at the Grant County Convention Center Small Event Room, 3031 US-180, Silver City, NM 88061
