David Sierra Obituary

David M. Sierra, 79, of Silver City entered eternal rest Saturday, November 2, 2019 at his residence.

He was born October 16, 1940, in Silver City, NM, to Estevan L. and Nasaria Munoz Sierra. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rosalina Jauregui Sierra, 3 daughters, Rachel (Robert) Rivera of Arenas Valley, NM, Margaret (Eddie) Diaz and Veronica Sierra of Silver City, NM, 4 grandchildren, David Rivera and his fiancé, Sadie Carmen of Tucson, AZ, Danielle Diaz of Las Cruces, NM and Isaac Diaz and Savannah Gonzales of Silver City, NM, two brothers, Manuel Sierra of San Antonio, TX and Estevan (Shelly) Sierra, of Silver City, NM, brothers/sisters-in-law, Rafael (Consuelo) Jauregui, Felipe (Susie) Jauregui, Rudy Jauregui, and Gertrude Chavez, of Bayard, NM, David (Alice) Jauregui of Hurley, NM and Candelario (Anita) Jauregui of Silver City, NM and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Rafael and Rosa Jauregui and his sister, Esperanza S. Turrieta.

David graduated from Western High School in Silver City, NM and joined the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany. He returned to Silver City where he worked for the Town of Silver City, and later the UV Mine in Fierro, NM while completing a degree in Education at Western New Mexico University. In 1977 he began working for the Silver Consolidated School District and retired after 28 years of teaching Elementary Education, Bilingual and Spanish. He was always eager to take his Spanish Club students to Mazatlan, Mexico. David was associated with several groups and organizations including El Grito Head Start, LULAC Council #8004, Delta Kappa Phi, and local Neighborhood Watch.  David was an admirer of Spanish music especially Boleros.  He enjoyed Trios, Juan Gabriel, Luis Miguel and Little Joe.  David loved the outdoors, hunting, picnicking and family events.  He watched old Cowboy Westerns, Football, Basketball, Wrestling and Spanish comedy shows.  He especially liked visiting with his longtime Army friend Hector Arriaga. David was a quiet man who kept to himself but had many friends. He was a strong believer in hard work, education and family. He will be greatly missed.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, November 7, 2019 from 5 to 6 pm followed by the Prayer Vigil and Holy Rosary led by Dr. Gilbert Arizaga at Baca’s Funeral Chapels. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Funeral Chapels. The Mass of the Resurrection will be Friday, November 8, 2019 at 10 am at St. Francis Newman Center in Silver City, NM with Father Bartholomew Ezenwelem officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be David Rivera, Danielle Diaz, Isaac Diaz and Savannah Gonzales. Honorary pallbearers will be all of his many friends.
