Donald W. Smith Jr., “Corky”, 82 of Lordsburg passed away on Friday, January 03, 2020.
Corky was born March 12, 1937 to Donald W. Smith Sr. and Helen Weaver Smith in Silver City, NM. He graduated from Hurley High school in 1955 and joined the United States Army that same year. He was a supply sergeant and served two years. Following his return home he worked for the Federal Aviation Administration for 20 years. He loved the outdoors, fishing and camping. He thought he was part of the Dallas Cowboys team, serving as armchair quarterback his entire life. He either yelled at them or took credit for the win. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, cousin and friend.
Corky is survived by his loving wife Lovella Fay Smith, his sons Craig (Tina) Smith, Randall (Kim) Woodard and Steve (Linda) Woodard, his daughters Linda (David) Ragsdale and Patti Jo Woodard, his sister Vicki Pfieffer, his grandchildren Cody, Linzy, and Samuel Woodard and Malorie Aralica, and one great-grandchild on the way.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald W. Smith, Sr. and Helen Weaver Smith, his sister Linda Smith, his brother-in-law Larry Pfieffer, and his son Robert Leon “Treb” Woodard.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapels. A Graveside service will take place at Memory Lane Cemetery on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 1PM. Officiating will be Deacon Art Gutierrez.
