Eloy “Sonny” G. Montoya, 84 of Silver City passed away November 23, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.
The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 9 am on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church. The Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10am. Officiating will be Father Oliver Obele.
Eloy was born January 28, 1937 in Mimbres, NM to Joe and Amelia Montoya. He was a mechanic by trade who had his own shop but was not limited to mechanics. Eloy was a master tradesman, who could do carpentry, plumbing, welding, and anything else that needed attention. Eloy was a very skilled worker but his real love was his family. He loved every one of his children, down to his last great grandchild. Family was most important. An avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting, fishing, boating, cruising the countryside with his forever bride, as long as it was outdoors, he was a happy man. He showed his children that same anticipation for the outdoor world and its pleasures.
Eloy is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Elizabeth (Perrault); four daughters, Donna (George) Elizondo, Deniene (Kyle) Brown, Lloyd Montoya-deceased (Annette); Audrey Montoya, and Juliette (Jose) Vasquez; and son, Randall Montoya; one brother, Eddie Montoya; three sisters, Lydia Galaz, Mary Ann Medrano and SaraJean Zamora. Also surviving Eloy are his grandchildren, Adam Elizondo, Lacey (Brad) Contreras, Keegan Brown, Nichole Montoya, Catelyn Montoya, Alec (Gabriel) Britton, Alyssa Morones, Gabriela Morones, Austin Montoya, Alexxis Vasquez, Triston Montoya, Cooper Montoya, Presley Montoya and Dustee Montoya. Great grandchildren, Jodie, Taylor, Addison, Roselynn, Cutter, Reagan, Ryan Lloyd, Kayden, Blake, Colt, Marley-Rose, Mia-James, and Karson. Some of his dearest friends Reyes Montoya, Gary Ponce Sr, John Trujillo, Louie Cordova, Joe Moreno, Rhett Hanson, Ruben Guadiana, Stevie Grijalva, and Gary Ponce Jr. Eloy was preceded in death by two sons, Lloyd Montoya and Eloy Steven Montoya.
