Ernesto Hernandez De La O, 68, formerly of Silver City passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2019 in Victorville, CA surrounded by his family.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at eleven o'clock in the morning at St. Francis Newman Center Parish. The Funeral Liturgy will follow at eleven thirty. Concluding service and burial will be at one o'clock in the afternoon at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Officiating will be Father Bartholomew Ezenwelem. Serving as pallbearers will be Phillip Cisneros, Andrew De La O, Paul Gandara, Robert Chavez, Richard De La O, and David De La O. Honorary pallbearer will be Freddie Marquez
Ernesto was born on February 20, 1951 in Lordsburg to Mary and Alfonso De La O. In 1977 the family moved to Silver City. Ernest was a decorated soldier serving the United States Army honorably from 1969 through 1972. He received medals and commendations for his heroic achievements which included National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Metal with two Bronze Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Sharpshooter M-14, expert mgm 60. Ernest was educated and trained as an Armor Recon Specialist. While living in Silver City, he was employed at Scott Nichols Ford Motor Company. Ernie enjoyed auto mechanics, gardening and watching sports. Los Angeles Dodgers, the Rams, Raiders and the Los Angeles Lakers were among his favorites. He enjoyed spending time with his family and all his friends who he cherished. He will forever remain in our hearts while he is resting in peace.
Ernesto is survived by his wife, Suzanne and her family, aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, and many friends.
