Estefana Mary (Lucero) Zuniga

It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Estefana “Mary” Lucero Zuniga, 92, of Deming who passed from this life into another on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 25, 2023 at 11 o’clock in the morning at Mountain View Cemetery. Father Prakasham Babu will be presiding the committal prayers. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.

Mary was born in Swartz, New Mexico on November 29, 1930 to Luis and Camilla (Dominguez) Lucero. She was a very hard worker and loved cooking for her family. She also enjoyed listening to Spanish music, crocheting, and yard selling. Mary worked at the chili factory, Caballeros Grocery Store and Rowland Clothing store for 20 years. Those who knew and loved Mary will miss her and celebrate that she is at peace in the arms of the Lord.

Those she leaves behind to celebrate her life are her children Norma (Cosme) Gutierrez, Sylvia (Ruben) Madrid, Ernesto (Tammy) Zuniga, Rolando (Lillian) Zuniga, and Carlos (Evelia) Zuniga; her sisters Nioma (Higinio) Molina and Margie Villegas; grandchildren Julie Ann Placenio (whom she raised), Caridad Maldonado, Alexis Gutierrez, John Michael Madrid, Gabriel Madrid, Antonio Madrid, Melissa Pena, Miguel Zuniga, Julio Zuniga, and Jermey Dominguez; step-grandchildren Lakeisha, Azuriah, Reagan, Ruben, Daniel and Veronica; nieces and nephews Socorro Alarcon, Mike Almanza, Mark Sanchez, Dennis Molina, Patricia Arenibas, and her loving dog “Chiquito”.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Luis and Camilla Lucero; spouse Angel Zuniga; a son Enrique Zuniga; grandson Cosme Luis Gutierrez; her sisters Julia Almanza and her spouse Refugio “Cuco” and their son Joe Almanza, Henrietta Sanchez and her spouse Milton and their daughter Deborah De La Pena, Erlinda Birley, and her spouse Jerry; brother-in-law Salvador (Chava) Villegas and a niece and nephew Melissa (Missy) Molina and Orlando Molina.
