Evan L. Ausman, Jr. “John” age 86 years, died peacefully at his home in Deming, NM on Thursday November 8, 2018.
John was born in Chicago, IL on January 21, 1932 and attended school in Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Illinois, attended South Dakota School of Mines, NMIMT in Socorro, NM, and Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO. He was a 50-year member of the Socorro Masonic Lodge #9, member of the Bataan American Legion Post in Deming and was a charter member of the Historical Society in Socorro. He enjoyed discovering ancient rock art, (petroglyphs), in New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona and other western states. He was a member of the first group of graduate students that researched lightning and thunderstorms at the Langmuir laboratory in the Magdalena mountains outside Socorro. John served in the Navy Reserve and U.S. Navy during the Korean war.
John is survived by his wife, Romaine; 3 daughters, Carol in Colorado, Jordan in Arizona, and Ellen Franklin in Alaska; 2 sons, Evan in Colorado and Edmund in Alaska; 1 sister, Jane Fuller in Arizona; 1 granddaughter, Jordan Ausman in Colorado and a grandson, Roy Franklin in Alaska.
Preceding him in death are parents; Dorothy Jacobson Ausman and Evan Ausman, Sr., and a sister; Mary Ausman.
