“Bucky”, as he was affectionately known was born October 4, 1952 in Los Angeles, CA to Ben “Venti” and Guadalupe “Lupe” Martinez. He moved from Los Angeles to Silver City when he was 19 years old. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He and his father, Venti, owned and operated B & B Towing. When Bucky wasn’t working, he sponsored youth sports, and coached little league and Pop Warner. Anyone who knew Bucky knew he was an avid Dallas Cowboy and Los Angeles Dodger fan. Listening to oldies music is only one of the many things that Bucky will be missed for. He will never be forgotten.
Bucky is survived by his father, Ben “Venti” Martinez of Deming; the mother of his children; three sons, Steven Bencomo of Silver City, Frank "Tweety" (Shannon) Contreras of Arenas Valley, and Michael (Stephanie) Contreras of Arenas Valley; one daughter, Sonia Castillo of Silver City; one brother, Benny Martinez (Denise) of Tucson. Also surviving Bucky are 17 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother Lupe Martinez; a son, Mark Contreras; brother, Robert Contreras, and a granddaughter, Ashley Castillo.
