Fred Augustin Vigil

Fred A. Vigil, 95, of Santa Clara passed away Friday, September 27, 2024 at Gila Regional Medical Center.

Visitation will take place at nine-thirty in the morning on Friday, October 4, 2024 at the Santa Clara Catholic Church in Santa Clara, NM. A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at ten-thirty led by Mr. Mick Guck with the Funeral Mass to follow. Father Casmir Anozie will officiate. Per Fred’s wishes, cremation will take place following Mass. The family will gather at the Parish Hall afterward and would like to extend an invitation for those who attend to join them in fellowship. The Rite of Committal and Inurnment will be at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at the Santa Clara Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Justin Muller, Cristobal Vigil, John Edward Vigil, Stephen Vigil, Paul Muñoz, Kevin Vigil, Matthew Vigil, and Jason Jimenez.

Honorary Pallbearers are the Cursillistas and all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Fred was born May 8, 1929 in Los Rechuelos, NM to Augustin and Maria Bernardita Vigil. He grew up in Española and went on to make his home at Ft. Stanton. Fred was later on transferred to Ft. Bayard and eventually settled in Santa Clara. He would spend the next fifty years of his life here, raising his family along with his loving wife of seventy-one years, Corine.

Fred’s loved ones will remember him as a loving father and grandfather. Fred was proud of his family and it brought him great joy to watch as it has grown over the years. In his younger years, he loved to fish and hunt and enjoyed spending time outdoors. He was a faithful Catholic and a member of the Cursillo movement.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Augustin and Bernardita Vigil; brothers, Eduardo, Alex, Willie, Lupe, and Arsenio Vigil; sister, Vera Karcher, granddaughter, Vanessa Vigil; great-granddaughter, Jazmyne Holguin; and son-in-law, Rudy Muñoz.

Fred is survived by his loving wife of the family home, Corine Vigil; sons, John, Richard, James (Belen), Raymond (Tracy) and Louis (Carol) Vigil; daughters, Estefanie (Ernie) Muller, Carmen Muñoz and Betty Vigil; sister, Laura Caffey (Thurlow); twenty grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
