George M. Arenibas, 64, a lifelong Deming resident, passed away at his home Tuesday, August 1, 2023.
He was born June 24, 1959, in Albuquerque, NM, to Manuela Morales and Tomas Arenibas, moving to Deming when he was a child. George graduated from Deming High School in 1978. After graduation he moved to Monahans, Texas, to work for Brown and Root. He came back to Deming and in 1982 began his career at Foxworth Galbraith. During his 40-year tenure, he made many friends. He was known for his fun, outgoing nature, his quick witty humor, and his willingness to help anyone in need. He retired in 2022 as Yard Foreman, but would still go in with a box of donuts to visit his former co-workers, who were like family to him. Jo-Jo, as he was known to his nieces and nephews, will be remembered as a diehard NY Giants fan, jokester, and someone who could make them laugh at the smallest thing. He will also be remembered for being optimistic, selfless, and a very caring and kind hearted man who loved them dearly and treated them as his own. They were all his favorites. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his siblings, and many close cousins and friends that he grew up with.
George is survived by his brothers Juan Delgado, Tom Arenibas (Margaret), Eddie Arenibas (Carmen Arias), Albert Arenibas all of Deming, and Simon Arenibas of Chandler, AZ; sisters Jannie Snyder, Patty Arenibas, Margaret Borden (Steve), Mary Arenibas all of Deming, Luisa Gallosa (Angel) of Mesa, AZ., and Judy Annie Young (Leonard) of Las Vegas, NV. Survivors also include his uncle Matilde Arenibas II (Mary) of Las Cruces, uncle Jose Santos Morales (Kathy) and his aunt Mary Julia Morales both of Deming, aunt Rosario “Chayo” Nieto of California, plus numerous nieces and nephews, who looked up to him as a father figure.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Tony Arenibas and Mike Morales, and a brother-in-law Wayne Snyder.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Mountain View Cemetery, with Deacon Bill Holguin officiating. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.
