George L. Chip, 98, passed away peacefully at Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces NM on Monday February 24, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Grandpa George (Pepe), as he was fondly known, a lifelong resident of Bayard NM was born July 7, 1926 in Central NM.
Grandpa George married Anita Caro Chip April 14, 1947. They were married 55 years. He was a proud Army veteran who fought in WW II and worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 39 years. He built his two homes in Bayard. He was a hard worker, along with his job with the railroad, he operated a leaching plant in Vanadium NM. He was always busy and could fix anything. George was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Dad enjoyed taking the family on vacation, and visiting his brothers and sister, utilizing his pass on the Railroad. He also enjoyed taking his kids fishing and camping. Later in life Grandpa loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
George is survived by his daughter Ida Marie Chip Ojinaga, sons George L Chip Jr and Roman Arnold Chip (Patricia). Grandchildren: Ruben Ojinaga, Robert Ojinaga (Marissa) Anthony Ojinaga (Denise), Anita Chip and Roman Angelo Chip. Great Grandchildren: Daniel Ojinaga, Jacob Ojinaga, Joshua Ojinaga and Samantha Ojinaga. Along with numerous nieces, nephews, godsons and goddaughters. Grandpa was preceded in death by his loving wife Anita C. Chip, Grandson Ryan K Chip, Parents George and Juanita Chip. Brothers Juan Chip Sr., Edmundo Chip, Roman Chip, Henry Chip, Isabel Chip McGinnis and Teresita Chip.
Visitation for Mr. Chip will begin at 10:00 am Monday March 10,2025 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church 340 Mayo St. Bayard NM 88023, with the holy rosary at 11:30am. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately thereafter. Burial will be at 2:00 pm at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with Military honors. Serving as Pallbearers are Ruben Ojinaga, Robert Ojinaga, Anthony Ojinaga, Roman Angelo Chip, David Chip, Daniel Ojinaga and Jacob Ojinaga. Honorary Pallbearers are Johnny Chip, Paul Chip Bobby Chip, Ricky Chip, Greg Chip, Adam Marin, AC Rodriquez, Joe Marin, and Chris Wilkey.
