Gilbert V. Rodriguez, 66, formerly of Grant County passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces.
The Prayer Vigil and Rosary will be at 1:30 pm on Friday, April 16, 2021 at St. Francis Newman Center Parish with the Funeral Mass immediately following. Officiating will be Father Bartholomew Ezenwelem. Concluding service and burial will follow at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Rodriguez, Gilbert Rodrigues, Jr, Armando Chavez, Isaac Ortiz, Michael Gonzales, and Daniel Placencio. Honorary bearers will be Edward Vasquez, Steve Ybarra, Orlando Avelar, Joseph Avelar and Javier Avelar.
Gilbert was born on November 16, 1954 to Manuel and Erlinda Rodriguez in Silver City. Gilbert served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. He went on to graduate from Western New Mexico University and also worked there as an accountant. Gilbert also worked as an accountant at Gadsden Independent School District, the City of Las Cruces, Tierra del Sol, and the Opportunity Center of El Paso. He was a devoted Catholic and a servant of God. Gilbert was a lector at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral in Las Cruces. Gilbert loved his family and his grandchildren and he enjoyed fishing, NASCAR and reading the bible. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Lydia Rodriguez; children, Gilbert Rodriguez, Jr., Armando Chavez, Ernestina Avelar (Orlando), Daniel Placencio and Rema Ortiz; 16 grandchildren; siblings, Manuel Rodriguez, Jr. and Martha Gonzalez; and his best friend, his dog, "Zeus". He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Erlinda Rodriguez; sister, Gloria Duran.
