Gonzalo "Marty" Martinez

Gonzalo “Marty” Martinez was born on January 10, 1934 in San Lorenzo, NM.  He died peacefully in his home in Las Cruces, NM on September 4, 2021, surrounded by his family.

Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Funeral Chapels.   Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at Seven o’clock in the evening on Monday, September 20, 2021 at Baca’s Funeral Chapel.  The Funeral Mass will be at Ten o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard with Father Martin Okonkwo, officiating.  Concluding service and inurnment will follow at the Hurley Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his wife Angie.

Gonzalo spent most of his childhood years living in the “Rockhouse” north of Hurley. He enjoyed catching sun, “oldie cars”, old western movies, and spending time with family. He was preceded in death by his parents Antonia and Martin Martinez, his wife Angie, four brothers, Pete, Reymundo, Martin, and Nicholas. and three sisters, Toney Laney, Mary Ellen Martinez, and Silveria Martinez.

Gonzalo is survived by his four children, Dorothy Portillo and husband Richard of Las Cruces, Tony Martinez and wife Cynthia of Bayard, Larry Martinez and Crystal of Bayard, and Marty Martinez of Phoenix, AZ. Gonzalo is also survived by three sisters Lumina Barboza of Modesto, California, Nellie Abalos of Silver City, NM and Matilde Quesada of El Paso Texas along with numerous nieces and nephews.  He also leaves behind nine grandchildren; Naomi Parra, Yllana Lujan and husband Jaime, Anthony Martinez, Christopher Martinez, Jessica Martinez, Larry Martinez Jr (“Larrito”), Angelina Martinez, Kaitlyn Martinez, Madison Martinez; six great grandchildren Brinda Vargas and husband Peter of Las Cruces, Britni Parra, Daniel Parra, Jaymes Lujan, Noah Lujan, and Veroneece Martinez. Two great-great grandchildren, Charlie and Zachariah Vargas. Our Dad and Gramps will be greatly missed by all!
