GRACE MARIE GOMEZ, 85, resident of Lordsburg, NM, and former resident of Rodeo, NM, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, NM, surrounded by loved ones.
Grace was born June 6, 1939, in San Pedro, California, to Richard and Evelyn Borger. Grace always spoke fondly of California, especially the Santa Monica Pier, one of her favorite spots from her childhood that held a special place in her heart. She married Manuel E. "Junior" Gomez on August 31, 1957, and spent most of her life in Rodeo. Together, they traveled widely, visiting many different places and along the way met strangers who became lifelong friends.
Grace was an avid crocheter, creating many beautiful handmade pieces for her family and friends. These cherished gifts continue to be treasured by those who received them. Grace had a deep love for old western movies and TV shows, often watching Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and The Andy Griffith Show for hours on end—sometimes even falling asleep to them.
Despite facing numerous health and physical challenges throughout her adult life, Grace never complained. She lived with a constant sense of gratitude, always with a smile on her face. Her family was her priority, and she was happiest when surrounded by them. Grace was a dedicated member of San Felipe Catholic Mission in Rodeo for many years.
Grace will always be remembered for her beautiful, sweet smile, her kind and loving nature, and the warmth she brought to every room she entered.
Grace is survived by her children, Richard Gomez (Linda) of Playas, Yvonne Pearson (Ron) of Clifton, AZ, Leanne McAnally of Lordsburg, NM, Beverly Charles (Mike) of Fruitland, NM, and Terri Gomez of Lordsburg, NM; brothers Richard Borger (Ollie) of Modesto, CA, and Gilbert Folk (Bonnie) of El Paso, TX; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Gregory Gomez; her husband, Manuel E. "Junior" Gomez; and her son-in-law, Dan McAnally, the late husband of her daughter Leanne.
A rosary will be held at San Felipe Catholic Mission in Rodeo on Saturday February 8, 2025 at 9:30 followed by a memorial mass at 10 o’clock with Fr. Jude Okonkwo presiding. As per her request, cremation has taken place, and she will be laid to rest at Middle Animas Cemetery, where she will be buried alongside her beloved husband, Manuel E. "Junior" Gomez, and her son, Kenneth Gregory Gomez.
