Gregory Gomez Obituary

Gregory Ornelas Gomez went home to be with the Lord peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Dec 22, 2025. Only eight days short of his 82nd birthday.

Visitation for Greg will on Sunday, December 28, 2025 from 4 to 5 pm at Baca’s Funeral Chapels.  The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will follow at 5 pm.  The Funeral Liturgy will be on Monday, December 29, 2025 at 10 am at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church.  Officiating will be Father Bill McCan.  Those having the honor to serve as casket bearers will be Anthony Sedillo, Devin Sedillo, Diego Herrera, Vicente Herrera, Randy Murillo, and Eddie Joe Quinteros.   Honorary bearers will be Jesse Montes, Manny Corral, Claude Gomez, Rudy Jaquez, Russ Provencio, and Ronnie Madrid.  Military Honors will be accorded after the Funeral Liturgy at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church. 

Greg is survived by his beautiful wife of 58 years Katie Gomez and three loving daughters Reyes Gomez Madrid, husband Ronnie Madrid, Sonia Gomez Sedillo & Teresa Tafoya Gomez, and his 9 loving grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and many loving adopted grandchildren that called him Tata. He is also survived by his brother Micheal Gomez (Carmen), his sister Dolores Flores (Tony), Susan Henderson (Albert) and Patsy Cottrell (Ward), and sister-in-law Rosalina Sedillos.  He is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents Frank and Julia Morones, brother Arnold Gomez, and many other beloved close relatives and friends.

Greg was born on December 30th, 1943 to Julia Ornelas Morones in Deming, NM.  He was raised in Silver City, NM on Chihuahua Hill which he was a part of the development of the history display of Chihuahua Hill at the Silver City Museum, where he gave information to present. He sang doo-wop in a group called MGM’s, (Jesse Montes, Eddie Marquez, Gilbert Gonzales, Adolfo Marquez, and David Marquez). He had a great love for music, and was of course a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan “GO BIRDS”. He enlisted in the United States Navy on October 3, 1962, where he proudly served four years as a Yeoman. He went to Vietnam and also received rewards and metals, and was Honorably Discharged on September 30th of 1966. In December of 1966 he then met his loving wife Katie, and was married on December 23, 1967. Greg lived a life full of laughter, and was renowned as a jokester. He enjoyed playing cards with friends and listening to music. He loved fishing and especially loved to dance. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed, but always be remembered.
