Guadalupe Rios Martinez

Our family is saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Guadalupe Rios Martinez, daughter of Severa and Atilano Rios. “Lupe” was born on December 17, 1929 in Santa Rita and predeceased by her siblings Anastacia (Tacha), Barney, Juanita (Juana), Frances (Lula) and Mary.

Visitation will take place at nine o'clock in the morning on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Baca's Funeral Chapel in Silver City. A Recitation of the Holy Rosary led by Deacon Bill Holguin will follow at nine-thirty. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Lupe at eleven o'clock at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Silver City. Officiating is Father Oliver Obele. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Hanover Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her loving husband.

Lupe was united in holy matrimony to Guillermo “Willie” Padron Martinez on July 26 of 1946. This union was blessed with four children. Willie predeceased her on September 13, 2011. Lupe and Willie moved from Santa Rita to Sunnyvale, CA in 1958 where she retired from electronic engineering. She spent many years traveling the country with her husband in their RV and taking their grandchildren on yearly camping trips. In 1990, she and Willie moved back to New Mexico to settle in Silver City. She loved to read and her spicy sense of humor kept those around her laughing. Lupe generously volunteered her time with the New Mexico Club while she lived in California, providing support to those moving to the Bay Area from her native state. She was also a member of the Silver Sams as well as a loyal supporter of St. Vincent’s Parish.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children; Mary Lou Villegas of Silver City, NM, Willie Martinez Jr. of Mountain View, CA, Edwardo Martinez of Gilroy, CA and Yolanda Labrado of Livermore, CA.; her grandchildren; Danny Martinez, Eleanor Mendez of Albuquerque, NM, Janiece Martinez of San Jose, CA, Margaret Mills of Aptos, CA, Regina Regalado of Los Banos, CA, Monica Labrado of Ashburnham, MA, Sonja Martinez of Mountain View, CA, Eddie Martinez Jr. of Soledad, CA, Christina Martinez-Ledesma of Hollister, CA, Bobby Labrado Jr. of Gustine, CA, and Michael Villegas of San Jose, CA. Lupe was loved and adored by her 33 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
