Guadalupe "Lupe" Morales Rascon

It is with heavy hearts and deepest sorrow that our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and cousin, Guadalupe “Lupe” Morales Rascon, 63, passed away in her home on May 14, 2025. A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at the Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Hurley, New Mexico. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Father Casmir officiating. The Rite of Committal and Inurnment will follow at Hanover Cemetery in Hanover, NM.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be her sons, Daniel Castillo, and Richard Lara; and grandsons, Keagan Castillo, Tony Altamirano, Dominic Torres, Samuel Guerrero and Eli Lara. 

Guadalupe “Lupe” was born March 14, 1962, to Manuel and Margaret Rascon in Silver City, New Mexico. Lupe leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, resilience, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. A private person by nature, she found peace outdoors whether she was camping in the Gila, casting a line while fishing, or tending to her cherished chickens and loyal dogs of her recent past (Lilly, Chiquita, Toby and Caramel). Lupe’s greatest joy in life was being surrounded by her family, including her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who will forever remember her as a steadfast presence in their lives. Lupe was a woman of privacy all the while preferring the comfort of solitude and the company of her animals over the bustle of crowds. Though reserved, her love for her family was unwavering, and she expressed her care through steadfast support and simple, meaningful moments. 

For over 25 years, she dedicated herself to her work for the State of New Mexico at Fort Bayard Medical Center as the Activities Director, where her reliability and strong work ethic left a lasting impression on all staff and residents of the facility. Even in her career, she carried herself with humility, letting her diligence speak for itself.  Though she may not have sought the spotlight, her presence was deeply felt by those who knew her and the passion she applied to her daily duties. 

Those left to mourn her passing include her loving children, Daniel Castillo (Charlotte), Dolores Altamirano (Gabriel), Rosanne Lara, and Richard Lara (Nancy). Three beloved sisters, Mary Nunez (Michael), Joanne Castillo (Pat) and Lucille Rascon. Half-Sister Celia “Sally” Baca. Grandchildren include Keegan, Kirsten and Evonny Castillo, Makayla Anaya, Antonio Altamirano, Arianna Luepke, Alivia Altamirano, Manuel Altamirano, Dominic and Destiny Torres, Samuel Guerrero and Eli Lara. Great Grandchildren, Marianna Altamirano, Ayrelli Castillo and Amara Castillo. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel C. Rascon and Margaret M. Rascon, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Rest in peace, Momma. Your love for life’s quiet beauty will never be forgotten.
