Helen was born on August 5, 1936, to Ana L. Vargas and Ignacio Medina. Helen was an amazing woman. Helen lived life to the fullest she never quit, gave up, or gave in. Helen was feisty, determined, and a tower of strength. Helen was a Western High School graduate. She also attended Beauty School and accomplished her goal of becoming a beautician. Late in her career, she was a foster grandma at the WNMU College Pre-School program. Helen was an inspiration to many because of her strength, humor, love, and even her sarcasm. Helen was a cancer survivor for over 40 years, a mother who never let her children do without, was the grandma that would call you out if you were going astray, was the strength that helped you get through times that were the toughest.
There are so many beautiful memories we all shared with our golden girl. Helen has always been and will always be the strongest in the family. She spent her last few years getting into mischief with her dog and companion Isabella (pork chop), watching Gunsmoke with Tudy, or participating in having her Grandchildren smuggle her sweets. Helen loved to watch Andy Griffith, Little House on the Prairie, and Judge Judy. She loved telling stories and making people laugh. She left the family with so many great memories.
Helen is preceded in death by Mother, Ana L. Vargas; Father, Ignacio Medina; daughter, Cathy (Chata) Abeyta; Great-Granddaughters, Jazzmynn Bejarano, and Sofia Arias. A stepfather, Manuel Vargas; her best friend and Aunt, Helen Villalobos; and special companion for many years, Pete Hernandez.
