Isabel Contreras

Isabel Contreras, 58, Deming resident passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces.

She was born October 18, 1964 in Deming to Jesusita Soltero and Bernabe Contreras. Isabel graduated from Deming High School, attended New Mexico State University where she graduated with a Bachelors in Social Work. Isabel worked over 15 years at Border Area Mental Health Services doing what she loved, helping others. Her most prized possessions, her granddaughters. Some say Moniqa came too early, but at the right time for her as she received the news of an illness that impacted her life. As she said she now has a reason to live. Six years later Deja came into the world and that one, that one definitely kept her on her toes. She volunteered at Bell Elementary School to stay close to her babies. If she wasn’t staying in the loop with her girls at school or cheering them on playing sports, she was cruising around town with her favorite drivers Jean and Pete, making bets on grapes because she swore Dallas was going to win. Every year was the year her Dallas Cowboys were going to make it to the Super Bowl. She definitely made it known she was a ride or die Dallas fan. To her second family of over 13 years Fresenius, you all made it easier, made a huge impact in her life, you have no idea, and for that we’re forever grateful. She was fortunate enough to gain a son in law and another family, they were able to vent to each other on how to deal with the craziness. She kept up with their daily talks, goals and dreams and was very proud of him when he graduated from the Police Academy. She couldn’t wait to celebrate with food and family both she missed very much.

We know our mom; nana made a small impact on people she crossed paths with and we are beyond grateful and blessed to have had the time we had with her. She was one of a kind, out of the box strong woman with complete disregard to what others thought or said, strong traits that her girls learned. A piece of our heart left but we will get it back when we’re together again, we love you infinity.

Survivors include her daughter, Jessica Jara (Manuel A. Mendez) and her 2 granddaughters, Moniqa and Deja Enciso.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Bernabe and Jesusita Contreras.

Serving as pallbearers will be Manuel A. Mendez, Manuel Mendez, Hector Prieto, Cesar Moreno, Brandon Artechi and Rodolfo Mendez.
