James Almquist Obituary

James Reuben Almquist, 85, Deming resident passed away Monday, March 29, 2021 at Mimbres Memorial Nursing Home.

James was born in Albert City, Iowa on January 30, 1936 to Reuben E. Almquist and Elsa Hall Almquist. After graduating from Albert City High School, he went on to attend Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN. After serving in the U.S. Army, he became an Internal Revenue Officer with the Internal Revenue Services for the United States Government. James enjoyed woodworking, gardening and reading were favorite pastimes upon retirement.

Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judy Rassler Almquist of the home; 2 children, Tony (Rose) Almquist of Davenport, IA and Lisa (Mike) Trebelhorn of Lincoln, NE. He is also survived by his 2 grandchildren, Alex and Kate Almquist and step grandsons, Nick and Josh Trebelhorn; a sister, Elinor (James) Roberts of Albert City, IA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Elsa Almqist and his brother, Theodore Almquist.

At his request cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory and a remembrance of his life will be held by family at a later date.
