Janice Marie Perez (nee Smith), 88, of Silver City, NM, peacefully passed away on November 4th, 2025, at home in Silver City, NM. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapels.
She was born in Hutchinson, KS, on August 26th, 1937, to Orley and Evelyn Smith. She earned a degree from Southwest Missouri State and worked as a Lab Technologist for her entire working career in hospitals and labs. Janice enjoyed gardening, birding and cooking. She was legendary for scalloped potatoes, carrot cakes and Christmas peanut brittle. She loved a good game of trash-talking Yahtzee and games in general.
She is survived by daughter Teresa Marie Perez and son Alan Luis Perez; sisters Margaret Hopper, Alberta Allen, Carol Smith and brothers, Richard Smith, Arthur Smith and Jarry Smith, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by daughter, Yvonne Oliva Perez, husband Luis Perez, parents, Evelyn & Orley Smith and sister, Orleta J Edwards.
Services will be held at First United Methodist Church of Silver City, NM on Saturday, November 8th, 2025 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Silver City or a charity of your choice.
