Jo Ann Gray Obituary

Jo Ann Gray passed away peacefully after a tough battle with Cancer surrounded by family on September 26, 2018 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. 

Memorial Services will be held at the Indian Hills Baptist Church in Silver City, New Mexico on October 12, 2018 at 11:00 am.  Interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery at 2:00pm. 

Jo Ann was born July 6, 1937 in Ajo Arizona to Burch and Mary Drake; she was the middle child of three children; big brother Burch Drake Jr. and little sister Karen Ford.  Jo Ann graduated from Cobre High School in 1956 and soon after married Robert E. Gray Sr. on June 23, 1956.  Jo Ann and Robert gave birth to their first son Robert Jr. in February 1957.   She worked for Community Public Service for a short time after that until the birth of their second son Steven in January 1960.  Living in Hurley most of her life, Jo Ann was known by many and amassed a huge network of dear friends that she cared for deeply.  She loved family and friends and cherished every relationship to the fullest.  She cared deeply about her family and never missed an opportunity to let them know.  Jo Ann loved talking about the fun times with her sons and all their friends growing up in Hurley.  She loved being with her grandchildren and cherished the memories of all those summers they spent together.  She passed over peacefully on September 26, 2018, at the hospital in Alamogordo with her son Steven and wife Dominique, granddaughters Courtney and Stephanie and great grandson Malakai present.  Jo Ann is survived by her sons Robert Gray Jr. and Steven Gray and wife Dominique, foster daughter Linda Peters and husband Seth; her grandchildren Stephanie Gray, Courtney Murray and husband Kenneth, Nicole Montoya and husband John, Sarah Gray, Paul Naumann and wife Melissa, Hannah Wilson and husband Matt, foster grandson Cody Palmer and wife Ashley; great grandchildren Hailey Montoya, Malakai and Iy’sis Murray, Derek and Ryan Naumann, Conner and Brooke Wilson, Breckin Palmer and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.  Jo Ann was the best wife, mom, nana and friend one could ever ask for.  She will be remembered for her fun loving spirit and giving heart.  Jo Ann was an active member of the Indian Hills Baptist Church and accepted Jesus Christ into her heart.
